About

So what's in this blog?

It took me some time to feel comfortable cycling in and around Brussels. Since I came here I cycled about 20,000 km so I guess I have some knowledge about road biking here. I would like to share this with other road bikers or just give a flavour of what road biking feels like in and especially around Brussels.

It's about where to go, what to do and especially what not to do. I have listed my favourite areas to go for a decent cycling ride, including GPS track. Also some useful links, road biking events and route planners.

And who blogs?

At the Tour de Namur in 2013
My name is Florian. I'm an Austrian living and working in Brussels since 2007. After years of road and mountain biking back in my homecountry I was terryfied when cycling in and around Brussels. Traffic anarchy, potholes that easily swallow you and your bike, car drivers nearly killing you... I gave up for a year to try it again.

Since starting road biking again (not mountainbiking - there is obviously something missing for that in Belgium) I do around 5,000 km a year (update summer 2015: down to around 2,500. Two kids don't really help getting more kilometers) This means I virtually know every little road 50km around Brussels. And there are roads and ways to enjoy cycling without too much traffic. Afterall it still is THE national sports of Belgium - well at least Flanders.
